Not Enough Time To Talk About Time

Where would I be without too many projects to work at once?

My readthrough/playthrough of the Witcher novels/games goes apace, but I got stuck on something I had issues with years ago - when trying to create a chronology, dates are not lining up.  However, I think I've come up with a breakthrough of sorts, based on this:

Sapkowski has stated that he originally was going set this in Earth's prehistory (a la Tolkien, I'm guessing) but decided against it.  Which is fine, as we have instances where universe-hopping Ciri visits our world...

The start of each (human) month appears to be a new moon.

The elves divided the year into eight portions of the same length.  The humans divided it into twelve.

What does this tell me?  Two things:

1)  Each human month is actually 30 days in length exactly.

2)  This matches the lunar cycle, so that the start of each month is a new moon.

This solved a lot of the timeline issues I was having.  We'll see if it hangs together.

There's two other timeline 'issues' I don't consider issues:

1)  The date of Geralt's 'death' - the massacre at Rivia - is plainly wrong in the game chronology.  It's basing it on the date of someone being interviewed about the circumstances, which was stated to be well after the fact, rather than the actual date provided in the novels.

2)  The date given in the start of the first Witcher game is plainly wrong and should be ignored.  References there and within the game itself plainly state that it is set 5 years after the end of The Lady of the Lake, which was explicitly set in 1268.  The games are set, in order, in 1273 / 1274 /1275.

I've also been plugging away at my Marvel project - indexing the X-Men comics (as well as 'historical' Marvel comics).  It's slow going, in part because I'm going by a sort of 'crossover / time between crossover' readthrough starting with the soft reboot at the start of the 90s, and the number of X-Men comics has grown from 5 at the start (X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, Wolverine) to 9 by the time of Onslaught (adding Cable, Generation X, X-Men Unlimited, X-Man) as well as starting with Excalibur when they started to tie them more with the others (i.e. during Fatal Attractions).  This is not to mention the various limited series and one shots, plus 'alternate reality' diversions (Age of Apocalypse, 2099, Earth X, etc.)

In any case, here's the preliminary timeline with events/crossovers that I've assembled, using the year with Legion Quest as my arbitrary 'year zero':

-5 - Proteus, Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, N'garai

-3 - Formation of the New Mutants.  Marriage of Scott Summers and Madeline Pryor.  Secret Wars.

-2 - Secret Wars II/The Trial of Magneto/birth of Nathan Summers.  Mutant Massacre.  Fall of the Mutants.  Death of Candy Southern.  Inferno.  Acts of Vengeance.  X-Tinction Agenda.  X-Force forms.

-1 - The Kings of Pain.  Nathan Summers sent to the future.  Muir Island Saga.  WTC incident.  Death of Masque.  X-Cutioner's Song.  Death of Illyana. Fatal Attractions/Bloodties.

+0 - Marriage of Scott Summers and Jean Grey.  Phalanx Covenant.  Legion Quest.  X-Men Prime.  Onslaught.  Death of Graydon Creed.  Operation: Zero Tolerance.  Heroes Reborn.

+1 - Magneto War.  The Twelve/Ages of Apocalypse.  Powerless. Six month gap.  Maximum Security.  Eve of Destruction/Dream's End

+2 - Destruction of Genosha.  Death of  Jean Grey.  Decimation.  Civil War.

+3 - Endangered Species/Messiah Complex/Divided We Stand.  Secret Invasion/Manifest Destiny.  Utopia/Dark Reign.  Necrosha.  Second Coming.

+4 - Heroic Age.  Fear Itself.  Schism/Regenesis.  AvX.  Battle of the Atom.  Original Sin.  AXIS.  Last Days.

+5 - Civil War II.  Inhumans vs. X-Men.  Secret Empire.  Age of X-Man/War of the Realms.  House of X

+6 - Krakoan Age.  Empyre.  X of Swords.  King in Black.  1st Hellfire Gala.  Inferno.  Devil's Reign.

+7 - Judgement Day.  2nd Hellfire Gala.

+8 - 3rd and final Hellfire Gala.

+9 - Current era (rough estimate).

This may change as I continue - currently I'm plowing through just prior to Onslaught.
